Metanoia Schools are currently active in Cape Town (Table View and Kenilworth) and in Port Elizabeth (Walmer)
We are an organisation that creates a platform from which quality education can be delivered to children who, through the nature of their neurodevelopmental disorders, (including autism), learning differences, or / and social, emotional and behavioral challenges are not able to progress within a mainstream school setting. We believe that all children have the ability and will to learn. It is our duty to find a way into a child’s thinking – to assist in giving meaning to stimulus within their environment and to mediate his reasoning and processing into independent actions and “output” that is meaningful.
We do this by facilitating, training, supporting and monitoring independently run Metanoia Schools . You find these schools within communities where there is a need and a passionate group of people that come together to give of themselves with expertise, insight and understanding to deliver high quality individualised education We believe not only in developing a child’s cognition and functional abilities, but also his strengths and human spirit.
Metanoia Schools was founded by Dr Lyn Thijsse (Educational Psychologist) in response to the need for meaningful, individualised education that could meet a child “where he is at” emotionally, behaviorally, socially academically and developmentally.
Our vision is to have education provided by Metanoia Schools to be available in all communities, in the spirit of collaboration and not competition.
At the core of all decisions made within Metanoia Schools are each child’s needs and “heart”, his place within his family and his community, his right to an education that is meaningful to him.
