About Us

Our Story

Welcome to Kloof Cottage, a place committed to providing an inclusive and adaptive learning environment that embraces the uniqueness of every child.

At Kloof Cottage, we extend a warm welcome to children aged 3 and beyond who may not find a perfect fit in the mainstream educational arena. Our approach goes beyond the confines of traditional curricula; instead, we focus on each child’s individual abilities and skill set.

In our nurturing environment, we believe in learning through play. This not only cultivates academic growth but also imparts essential life skills, socialization abilities, and coping mechanisms. We are dedicated to bridging the ‘kloof,’ breaking down barriers for children facing specific difficulties, and fostering an inclusive learning atmosphere.

Owned by a Mommy of two special needs boys, Kloof Cottage has a personal touch that understands the challenges faced by families seeking quality education for children with unique needs. Throughout her journey from school to school, she felt that her boy’s abilities were being underestimated, and that learning should not be limited because of specific barriers… it need only be adapted. This prompted her to search beyond the Eastern Cape where she met Dr Lyn Thijsse and invested in the ELS therapy program.  The foundation of our Early Learning Support (ELS) program is built upon a philosophy of individualized, systematic, and developmental learning; placing realistic demands on each child’s unique learning needs and potential.

Registered with the Department of Education, Kloof Cottage began its journey in 2018 and , since then, opened their doors for enquiries and enrolment in the following phases of education: Early Childhood Education ECD (3-6 years), CAPS Foundation phase (R- Grade 3), DCAPS Pre-vocational phase (R-Level 3).

At Kloof Cottage, we believe that learning should adapt to the child, and every success story reinforces our commitment to breaking down educational barriers and fostering a love for learning in every child.

What People Say About Us

Words cannot express what Kloof has done for my son. The love and most importantly the individual attention to the education has been professional and catering to my son’s individual needs, meeting him where he is at. We are so excited what the future holds and the interactive classroom app makes us feel part of our child’s development! Thank you Kloof for bringing  Metanoia to Port Elizabeth and allowing my son to grow and strive to excellence!
We have been struggling in Port Elizabeth to find the right fit for our son with Autism - it is like no one can see the potential and misunderstands how to approach him. We found Metanoia Kloof Cottage and within just a few weeks we saw a significant difference in his abilities and his behaviour. Metanoia Kloof Cottage brings out the absolute best in him and build him up every day. As a family this has made such a significant impact, we can rest assured that our son is receiving the best intervention in the city.
Our journey with Metanoia Kloof Cottage started a mere 3 months ago.
Having a little boy on the spectrum, I’ve literally struggled for years to find a school which was a good fit for him.
I had to find a place that would understand his sensitive nature, who would create a happy learning environment, deal with his vision problems, work through his anxiety etc.
I can honestly say that Kloof Cottage ticked all the boxes and even more. The skill set he has acquired in such a small period of time is truly phenomenal.
For the first time I’m driving a kid to school who is not only not having a meltdown, but can’t wait to jump out of the car to meet his teacher.
My boy has finally found his tribe!
I used to cry late last year not knowing where and when I will send my son to school.

I never thought there would be a day where I listened to my son reading a book and with excitement. Today to be exact, he was watching his favourite cartoon show on TV when I asked him to come and finish his reading, he did not hesitate at all.  I felt like crying again, this time tears of JOY.

I really commend you and your team for the amazing work you do for our kids.   I am so glad I made the decision to enrol him at Kloof. To think of it, it's only a few weeks since the school opened its doors for 2021 and already he can READ.
